The Herbst Appliance will help to bring your lower jaw forward and improve your bite.

What can I expect with this appliance?
|
|
 |
You may have some light tenderness in your jaw.
You may experience some irritation inside your cheeks.
Placing soft dental wax over a pokey area can help.
You may have to eat a soft diet for the first few days.
|
|
|
|
 |
- Please don't play with your appliance.
- Avoid hard foods and big bites of food.
- Don't open your mouth too wide, the rod will slip out of the tube.
|
|
|
|
|
The most common problem with the Herbst is the rod coming out of the tube, due to the patient opening their mouth too wide.
|
 |
|
- You may get sores in your mouth due to the appliance rubbing your cheeks.
- Rinsing with warm salt water will relieve some pain.
- We recommend some oral numbing gels such as Zilactin-B.
- Placing cotton rolls in your mouth, nest to the tubes, can cushion and prevent more sores.
