Essix Retainer Care
This is an example of a typical upper essix retainer. Essix retainers are great to use because they retain the teeth 360 degrees around, whereas a wire can only hold front to back, sometimes allowing the teeth to rotate out of alignment.
Bullet 1 Wear the retainer full time until Dr. Teel instructs you to go to night time only. 
Bullet 2 If you are already on night time wear only, and the retainer feels tight when you put it in, you may need to wear it full time. 
Bullet 3 Clean the retainer with soap and water or toothpaste and a Q-tip or a small scrubber brush. 
Bullet 4 Scrubbing the retainer with your toothbrush will dull the brilliance. 
Bullet 5 Store the retainer in its case we supplied you with. 
Bullet 6 If you lose the retainer. call us immediatly because you'll need a new one to prevent tooth movement. 
Bullet 7 Wear the Essix retainer during sports, it can serve as a mouthguard.
